Toy Packaging

So birthdays in Northern Virgina are obscene, and I admit we are part of it. We had a huge stash of presents for our 5 year old boy..who really doesnt need anything, and we go out and get presents for kids who really dont need anything, so its a huge waste of resources and materials. So, we are not going to tell people not to bring presents, we just arent that brave, but I make sure i take all the packaging and recycle it.

The recycle bin isnt just for beer bottles and diet coke, a lot of the packaging we get for the matchbox cars and spiderman wrist shooter can be recycled. Any plastic toy holder pieces gets put in with our liter coke bottles (from Pump It Up party place. And the cardboard gets put in with the beer six backs I picked up at total beverage today.

Good observation on the packaging. One of the frustrating things we have found is that some packaging doesn't indicate whether or not the packaging is recyclable. One way to get better about this is to only buy products that come in packaging that is marked as recyclable.
So this brings up a question I don't know the answer to. Do you know what happens to non-recyclable materials that are put into a recycling bin?

Good question Keith. Since I dont know which plastics are recyclable and which aren't, I put them all in the recycle container. That way I know what will be recyclable will get recycled, the rest will end up where they would have anyway. I actually just found out from Victoria that all plastics aren't recyclable, I guess I thought everything got mashed, sliced, broken and melted into picnic benches. Victoria probably has all sorts of opinions on this.
